I recently reached out to my Instagram followers, to ask what they wanted to know about permanent makeup. Here are the 10 most commonly asked questions , tailored to reflect the services offered by me - at Face - Permanent Makeup & Aesthetics:

  1. What is permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup, also known as micropigmentation, is a cosmetic procedure that involves the application of pigment to the skin to enhance your natural features such as eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips.

In order to offer you the best treatments, with the most beautiful, long lasting results, I only offer machine-method permanent makeup, rather than using a manual hand tool. Book in for a free consultation, or check out my previous blog post for more info on how the two methods differ.

  2. How long does permanent makeup last?

Permanent makeup typically lasts between 1 to 3 years, depending on various factors such as your skin type, lifestyle, and the area treated. Colour boosting appointments are recommended to maintain the results, but these should only be booked when your old permanent makeup has sufficiently faded.

If you're thinking about a colour boost - feel free to send over a photo, as I'll be happy to tell you if you're ready, or better to wait a little longer.

  3. Is permanent makeup safe?

Yes, when performed by a skilled and licensed professional, permanent makeup is safe. Good salon hygiene and client safety are my top priorities. I use high-quality pigments and equipment - all the items used on broken skin are single use, to ensure that all procedures are done in a safe and clean environment to reduce any risks.

  4. Does permanent makeup hurt?

While the level of discomfort varies from person to person, topical numbing creams can be applied to ensure a comfortable experience. My typically report mild to no discomfort during the procedure, making it a relatively pain-free treatment... I even have some clients fall asleep during their appointment!

  5. How long does the procedure take?

The duration of the procedure depends on the area being treated. Typically, it takes around 2 hours for eyebrows and eyeliner, and a little longer for lip enhancements. I always take my time to ensure that each treatment is done with precision and care, resulting in the best possible outcome for you.

  6. What is the recovery process like?

After your treatment, there may be slight redness, swelling, or scabbing, but this should subside within a few days. I provide you with detailed aftercare instructions, and a carefully curated aftercare kit, to ensure optimal healing and longevity of your permanent makeup.

  7. Can I still wear traditional makeup with permanent makeup?

Yes, permanent makeup enhances your natural features but does not replace the need for traditional makeup. You can still wear regular makeup, but you’ll find that your permanent makeup makes your routine quicker and more effortless.

  8. Are there risks or complications?

As with any cosmetic procedure, there are minimal risks involved, such as allergic reactions or infection. I mitigate these risks by following strict hygiene protocols, using only the best quality products and patch testing where necessary. I also conduct a thorough consultation to assess your suitability for the treatment.

  9. Can permanent makeup be removed?

While permanent makeup is long-lasting, it can be removed if necessary through laser removal or saline tattoo removal techniques. The ensure my clients leave their appointments happy, I carry out a thorough consultation to fully understand your individual needs and expectations as there's no 'one size fits all' with any beauty treatment - but especially not a permanent one.

If, however, you have old permanent makeup done elsewhere that you're not happy with - I offer saline removal, which is great for lightening old permanent makeup so the area can be reworked and improved.

  10. How do I choose the right permanent makeup artist?

Choosing the right permanent makeup artist is crucial. Look for a licensed, qualified professional with experience in the specific area you want to enhance. I have invested a lot to ensure I trained with the best in the industry, and continue to improve my skills through continued professional development and master classes as I really believe we can always learn more, and become better.

I invite you to book a consultation with me to discuss your individual needs and expectations.
